So wonderful to see these
Nyre,
These photos made me feel so good to see how much fun you guys had together. I remember hearing Amy’s name back then too & I still even remember her last name because he always said her first and last name together (I won’t write it here for internet privacy reasons, but I’ll just say I know it begins with a W). 🙂
That’s awesome that you guys pretended to be tourists because we used to do the same thing! Pretending to be a tourist with Tom was probably even more fun than being an actual tourist somewhere.
I don’t remember ever seeing Tom’s video camera until now & for a moment, I thought “How did he end up with my camera?” In Dallas, I had the video camera (which looked like this one) & Tommy had the fun convertible. I forgot that he ended up getting a video camera in Austin (unless maybe it was Dan’s). BUT, then I remembered that of course he used a camera there because Tommy did make me a videotape from Austin… and I loved it!
Of course, when I get around to it some day, I will post videos of it on here. I remember Tommy used to love to visit a street in Austin that was COVERED in Christmas lights (decorated in a fun way rather than an elegant way), and he recorded that as one of many scenes on the tape. I remember him laughing as he recorded. It made me want to live on a street like that, where people had so much fun with Christmas. I remember him playing pool back then regularly somewhere. Little bits of memories are starting to come back more. He seemed to really enjoy his Austin days.
You all look really cute together! Thank you so much for sharing these! If you have any other photos to share some time, please do!
When I heard about Tommy being sick I immediately dug through some old photos and sent them to Nyre. We met Tommy the same night then I left for college and Nyre and Tommy were attached at the hip. I lived with Tommy in NYC in Spanish Harlem in 1997 where we pretended to be the supers of the building for cheap rent. This also meant we had people banging on the door when they had problems with the apartments and we had to call the actual owners who would maybe send someone. I’ll never forget that apartment or living with Tommy. It was above a grocery store where we had to flip the breakers in the basement during summer brown outs.
He would often play his keyboard until someone came into the window and snatched it one afternoon while we were there! Silly Texans leaving their windows open on the fire escape. We called the police and they came and asked why we called because there wasn’t anything they could do.
It was always a fun time with Tommy!! So many laughs. And you’re right with the W!! For Warshauer 🙂
